Medical Device Sales is a very competitive industry. Literally hundreds of applicants apply for a single job. If you’re average… you might get an interview, but you won’t get the job. The one thing I’ve see with all my guest that have broken into the industry is their all above average and went above and beyond to get hired.
The average person doesn’t:
Network
The average person will tell me they networked with under 10 people… the above average candidate has talked to 20+ people in the industry. Personally, I reached out to 3,000+ and spoke with 180 people.
Have Hunger/Passion
You want to be remembered after speaking with someone. You have to show that you’re hungry and going to make an impact once you break in.
Come Prepared
The above average candidates come prepared. They networked with reps in the position. They do hours of networking, preparation, and are ready for every question thrown their way. The average candidate looks at the company website and have a couple questions prepared.
Follow Up
The above average candidate followed up with every person they spoke with and during interviews, but also made a memorable message. The average person will just shoot a thank you follow up or won’t follow up.
Utilize Their Work
The average person just goes through the interview process. The above average candidate has people to go to bat for them and will send messages on their behalf recommending them for the position.
Don’t Quit
The average candidate gives up after 6-12 months. They say that they tried, but it didn’t work. The above average candidate has the mindset they don’t care if it takes 2 years…. They will break in.
I hope this message was a positive one. If you’re currently not getting interviews or having trouble breaking in I hope you found this super helpful.
Until next time, Work towards your goals and make them a reality.
