What do you do everyday as a medical device sales rep? This is a question I get asked almost daily.

There’s so many answers for this question, so I wanted to dive a little deeper to give you better insight on what an average day looks like. When it comes to this answer the best one I can provide is…. It varies.

No two days are the same in medical device sales. Heck, even the day I have planned at 7 a.m. changes at least 5 times/day. But, activities I perform on a weekly basis: covering cases, running trays, business meetings, prospect lunches, running supplies to accounts, placing orders for accounts, jumping on mandatory calls, discovering certain positions at prospect hospital, etc. As you can see there is a lot to be done as a medical device sales rep, but here is a sample day:

7 a.m.: Case (case actually starts at 730 a.m.)

9 a.m.: Go pick up tray from hospital that was used in surgery

9:30 a.m.: Run tray to new account for future surgery

10 a.m.: Get call from account needing supplies

10:30 a.m.: Run account supplies

11:30 a.m.: Lunch with prospect doctor

1 p.m.: Case

2 p.m.: Call on new doctor

3 p.m.: Answer emails

3:30 p.m.: Get case notification for next day

4 p.m.: Finish up daily calls/ emails

5 p.m.: Once everything is done call it a day (but still always have work phone on you)

So here is just a sample day that I have personally have had. Again, each day is different and my next day will look very different to this. It’s also going to depend on what division you go into and what product you’re selling. There will be some divisions that work way more than this and could do way more case coverage and vice versa.

Just know as a Medical Rep you need to be great at adapting and planning ahead because you will have you must do’s each day, but promise you things will get added on. There will be stressful times and long days, but Medical Device Sales is absolutely amazing and I wouldn’t change it for the world!

Until next time, Work towards your goals and make them a reality.
