This is a hot topic right now! I get messages every week asking my opinion or my thoughts on Medical Sales College.

If you don’t know what Medical Sales College is, it’s an organization that has put together a “college” that prospective students apply to, get accepted, and then choose one of the several programs they offer to learn more about Medical Device Sales.

The programs vary in length and setting. From what I’ve been told by current and past students, the programs are 8-12 weeks, and are completed in-person, online, or hybrid.  The cost of this program is about $15,000 (at the time of me writing this. Again, all data has come from candidates that are current or past students).

My Advice

I think Medical Sales College is a great option for someone who has money and is looking to learn more.

But you could also do that and save your money. I personally didn’t go because I didn’t want to spend the money. I knew that networking would be key and could learn about medical sales by talking to a lot of reps/managers.

They put you in programs for example orthopedic and trauma. So you go 12 weeks learning about this, but what happens when you get hired in Urology???  Totally different and you’re still have to go through the companies training.

I would encourage you to network, network, network. Make relationships with as many people as you can, grow those, and get your foot in the door.

Because you’re going to have to do that even if you go to medical sales college. The #1 Complaint I hear from graduates is they just learned anatomy and didn’t learn how to sell. Also, they have no connections so I have talked with countless students who have been graduated for months and still don’t have a job or an interview

In Summary, Do What’s Best for You

Even if you go to Medical Sales College you’ll still have to do all the networking and hard work. If you feel Medical Sales College is the right choice for you that’s great! But, for me it wasn’t and I made sure to network like crazy and show that I was the right person for the job, which I outline everything I did in my Ebook at https://newtomedicaldevicesales.squarespace.com/store/p/med-device-ebook. This is how I got 4 job offers from top 30 Medical Device Sales Companies with no prior sales experience.

There’s never a wrong choice. It’s whatever works best for you, but my advice: save your money, network like crazy, and if you really need the anatomy portion go buy an anatomy book or watch YouTube videos.

Until next time, Work towards your goals and make them a reality.
